Absolutely no interest. Out for sure... like every other year. The only bigger waste of time is when the NHL sends players to the Olympics. THAT is an even bigger crap show since the league shuts down 2 weeks. |

The all star game is a total waste of time and actually makes people almost forget about hockey. If they had a vote from their fans it would be an overwhelming toss the game. If the league insists have the game as a star studded event to start the season in October. The only people that want this crap are the players so they can take a trip. |

Down on the farm in Grand Rapids...
Just found out the Griffins goaltender Olkinuora has left the team to go play in Sweden. Guess he hadn't played in quite a while... especially since Ned is down there and playing pretty good. That leaves Ned and Brattstrom.
Vrana with another goal tonight... starting to heat up and scoring goals.
Matt Luff is back from injury... so that should help them score a few more goals. |

Jeremy Laura: The All-Star weekend - are you in or out? - Jeremy Laura
Out.
The NHL seems more interested in making this increasingly a bigger gimmick every few years, as some way to draw in fans. But the reality is, if the all-star game does not even remotely look anything like a regular season (et alone, playoff) game, then what are you trying to sell?
The whole weekend is a waste of time.

There is only 1 event that remotely is of interest: Hardest Shot. It's like the HR Derby or Slam Dunk Contest.
And like those events, has lost its luster.
I'd rather shave my arm-pits with a cheese grater, thanks. So, yeah.....
Out. |

I'm not into it personally. The NHL all-star game is never going to be good hockey, because players (understandably) are not going to risk injury and hockey just doesn't work without real effort from the players. If what you really want to see is a competitive hockey game, it's an unsolvable problem and no amount of tweaks or gimmicks is going to fix that.
The only way to make me care enough to watch an uncompetitive game is if it's loaded with players or storylines I personally care about. I'll watch an old-timers game loaded with retired Red Wings stars. I watched the all-star game where Osgood and Legace both made the team (along with a handful of Red Wings) like 15 years ago. I think I maybe watched some of the Team Lidstrom game and some of the John Scott game. But I usually pass.
But whatever, the game's not my jam and that's fine. Not everything has to be made to appeal to me specifically. I'm not going to waste energy crapping all over the game or saying it needs a bunch of changes to appeal to "hardcore fans" or saying the NHL should get rid of it. If enough people enjoy it that it makes financial sense for the league to keep doing it, I have nothing against it. I just won't watch. Whatever. |

That, and throughout the games they’ll post shot speeds now. I find it more interesting to see what someone does in game than in that environment |

The NHL All-Star game has gone the way of the Pro Bowl & NBA All-Star game and it's pretty much useless. At least with the MLB All-Star game, there's something to play for. They have a reason to compete. Not so with the NHL anymore. It's actually become pretty ridiculous with the costumes for shootouts, having tons of non-All-Stars there for all different kinds of competitions. I can't stand any of them anymore.
The NBA game used to be awesome, especially the slam dunk contest, but that's now gimmicky and the game has become a political event. None of the players want to play in the Pro Bowl and it probably loses out in ratings to HGTV re-runs. I think the NHL is going the same route. Instead of using it to promote the game, they are promoting individual players and ultimately, they aren't showcasing their talent. Eastern vs Western is gone. If they want to bring back excitement to the game, bring the conference battle back and make it so they winning conference gets an extra 5 points in revenue sharing. |

Zadina assigned to Grand Rapids for conditioning stint. So he'll be playing on the road in Texas Friday and Satruday. Saturday's Griffins game is being broadcast for free on WXSP on Comcast in Michigan. |

"Dylan Larkin, meanwhile, is also approaching free agency and could be a huge chip for the Detroit Red Wings if they can’t come to an extension. On that front, Larkin and agent Pat Brisson will meet this weekend according to Pierre LeBrun, who noted on TSN’s Insider Trading that Larkin does have a full no-movement clause and could essentially decide his own fate at the deadline."

Ex-Wing Gus is gonna be a hot commodity even though his injury has him OUT FOR THE SEASON:
"According to TSN’s Chris Johnston, a trade is still a possibility. On TSN’s Insider Trading segment, Johnston reports that because of Nyquist’s injury, the ability of teams to place Nyquist on long-term injured reserve to “stash” Nyquist until the playoffs (when the salary cap is no longer a consideration) he has actually become a more attractive trade candidate. Nyquist is a three-time 20-goal scorer and should be able to help a team looking to reinforce its scoring attack"
Adding Nyquist now and then putting him on LTIR a team could add another $5.5M salaried player(s) before the TDL!!!!!! Hello Toronto, Boston, Tampa, Edmonton, LA, Washington!
